Lake Lanier

The creation of Lake Lanier in Georgia involved the displacement and submergence of thriving Black communities, erasing their homes, schools, and churches. The town was previously called Oscarville.

Tulsa’s Greenwood District

In 1921, one of the most prosperous Black neighborhoods in Tulsa, Oklahoma, also known as the Black Wall Street, was destroyed in a racially motivated massacre. Over 300 Black-owned businesses were obliterated, leaving thousands homeless

Seneca Village

Located in what is now Central Park, New York City, Seneca Village was a flourishing Black community in the mid-19th century. The village was demolished to make way for the park, displacing hundreds of Black families.
